trail ridge road Mist Trail at Vernal Falls June/July 2011

The snowpack and resulting snow melt in the Sierras was at a record after receiving more than 800 inches. On top of the snow was a surprising summer rain which made for a spectacular and very dangerous rivers and falls. Here is was we encountered walking up the mist trail. As you can see we were pelted with a strong sideways wind driven rain(mist) up the granite steps. The steps themselves became mini water falls and the top of each step was a puddle. Kids and some adults we scared of going down the same slipper path so we look the longer but drier route down to the valley floor.
